Day 1 Arrival

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, our Echoes from Africa representative will welcome you outside the customs and immigration hall and escorted to the VIP lounge as your Visa and all immigration procedures are being handled as well as collection your luggage. Later introduction to your driver guide and proceed to Kigali Marriott Hotel where you will be assisted to check in followed by dinner and an overnight stay with breakfast included. Day 2 Full Day Kigali City Tour

Today you will enjoy a relaxed breakfast at the hotel. Then later begin a city tour with highlights including the Kigali Genocide Memorial.

Genocide Memorial Centre: The Genocide Memorial is a must-see. Rwanda’s painful past has haunted the country for years, yet their impressive recovery story has turned them into an inspiration. The Genocide Memorial acts as a humbling reminder to those present and honors those who have been lost. Audio visual equipment will be provided in Dutch, English, and other languages.

Inema Arts Centre:

Located in the heart of Kigali City, Inema Art Center is one of East African’s major art galleries, housing a collection of artists from around the African Continent. Today, Inema Arts Center has become a beacon in Rwanda for cultivating creative expression. The center provides space for 10 artists in residence to explore their creative talent by produce paintings, sculptures, and mixed media expressions.

Question Coffee Gishushu Master Class:

The class starts where coffee transforms from a seed into a fruit-bearing tree—the farm. The cafe features a coffee thriving garden that is representative of a classic Rwandan coffee farm, where they explain the steps that go into coffee agronomy and harvesting. After you’ve learned about coffee agronomy, harvested ripe cherries, and tasted the sweet coffee fruit, you’ll de-pulp your harvest and learn how it’s processed in order to be ready for roasting. The coffee also makes great gifts to bring home to your friends and family and for your own home brewing. The master class takes about 2 hours.

Day 3 Akagera National Park (2hrs 30 minutes’ drive)/Sunset Boat Ride

08h00: Breakfast at the hotel, check out and transfer to Akagera National Park. Arrive and proceed to check in at Mantis Akagera Game lodge followed by lunch.

Akagera National Park Sunset Boat Cruise

For a stress-free nature experience, tourists can embark on the Akagera National Park Evening Boat Cruise. The cruise will take visitors on an unforgettable journey as the sun sets. The lakes and surrounds offer views of wildlife such as cormorants, hippos and crocodiles. Knowledgeable guides are on hand to answer any questions and point out points of interest on the cruise.

Day 4 Akagera National Park – Full Day Game Drive

Today you will have breakfast and proceed on a full day game drive with packed lunch covering both the South and North.  The activities will all be extra interactive, looking for tracks and signs in the bush, trying to recognize bird sounds and identifying animals both big and small.

Akagera National Park is home for animals like elephants, buffalos, Giraffes, zebras and more than a dozen types of antelopes that inhabit the park. Most commonly the handsome chestnut-coated impalas, but also the diminutive oribi and secretive bushbucks, the ungainly tsessebe, the world’s largest antelopes and the statuesque Cape eland.

Day 5 Akagera National Park – Behind the scenes tour/Evening Game Drive

Breakfast at the lodge, you will transfer for a behind the scenes tour which starts at 09h00 and ends at 11h00. This tour explains the key partnerships of the park including Law enforcement control room, patrol teams and canine unit ‘dog show.

Return to the lodge for lunch. Later do an afternoon game drive.

19h00: Dinner and overnight stay Akagera Game lodge – Room Category: Balcony room (inclusive of all meals and excludes drinks)

Day 6 Road Transfer to Kigali (2 hrs 30 minutes)/relaxation

Breakfast at the lodge, check out and settle any extras, you will do an En route game drive and later proceed to Kigali arriving in time for lunch at Boho Restaurant.

Afternoon is at leisure while enjoying the hotel facilities.

Day 7 Rwand Air Flight to Kamembe Airport

05h00: Check out with packed breakfast and transfer to Kigali International Airport for a flight to Kamembe Airport departing at 07h00 and arriving at 07h40 and proceeding to the park headquarters for Canopy Walk briefing which starts at 08h30.

Situated in south-western Rwanda, the Nyungwe Forest National Park is known for its exceptional biodiversity and its wide range of endemic species. The Park is composed of lush tracts of rainforest set high up on fertile mountain slopes. It is one of Africa’s most ancient forests and the home of Rwanda’s sole remaining chimpanzee population, as well as 85 additional mammal species, 43 reptile species, nearly 300 bird species and over 1000 plant species.  Later transfer to check in at Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel.

Day 8 Chimp Trek (+15 years only)/relaxation

At 05h00, transfer for briefing and start point for your Chimpanzee trekking experience.

Chimpanzee Trekking is an exciting activity whereby guests will dash through the flora to encounter the chimpanzees playing in the wild within the Nyungwe National Park. With a maximum of 8 people per tour, the Chimpanzee trekking is a popular and challenging adventure, but due to the authentic nature of the experience, chimpanzee viewing is not a guarantee.

Estimated return is at 11h00, freshen up and have lunch. Evening you have an optional visit to Gisakura Tea estate. Dinner and overnight stay at Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel inclusive of all meals except drinks.

Day 9 Transfer to Volcanoes National Park Area (+6 hrs drive)

06h00: Breakfast at the hotel, check out and settle any extras. At 07h00: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park area via Kibuye with beautiful views of Lake Kivu. Arriving at a round 13h00, you will be assisted to check in, freshen up and have lunch at Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel.

Afternoon: Relaxation as you get ready to trek gorillas the next day

18h00: Gorilla Doctors lecture. This is a great way to prepare for the gorilla trekking experience.

The talk will include the following;

History and habitation of the Mountain Gorillas in the Volcanoes National Park, Virunga and Bwindi National Park.

How deliberate measures in conservation has led to the constant growth of the Gorilla population.

Procedures taken in monitoring the Gentle giants through safe sample collection and direct treatment and census taken by the Gorilla Doctors.

Behaviors and mannerisms of the Gorillas and how to behave while viewing them. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel. Inclusive of all meals, 1 soda & mineral water during meals only

Day 10 Volcanoes National Park – Gorilla Trek/Relaxation

06h30: Early breakfast precedes the day, before heading to the park headquarters for the gorilla trek briefing at 07h00. You will then transfer you to the starting point of your guided walk, ready to begin this amazing adventure at 8am.

Gorilla trekking in Rwanda is often described as “life changing” and with good reason. With only an estimated 880 Gorillas left in the world, to see these gentle creatures in their natural habitat are a truly unique moment. Hikes in the mountains can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours+ depending on the family allocated to your group and their location. The journey back can take just as long, but you are often carried along by the euphoria you feel after seeing the gorillas,

The largest gorilla group ever studied is in Rwanda and was led by Cantsbee. He was the oldest known mountain gorilla in the world. A gorilla family is led by a Silverback and include several younger males, adult and juvenile females, and infants. In addition to providing protection to group members, Silverbacks maintain order and decide all activities within their troop. They schedule feeding trips, resting time, and travel. They also father the majority of young in the group.

For gorilla trekking, you will be in rainforest, so it will more than likely than not, rain. Warm clothing is required as well as walking/hiking boots, a hat and lightweight parka/raincoat. Garden gloves, to avoid stinging nettles, and gaiters, are recommended. After a most memorable experience encountering these creatures, you will return to the lodge for lunch. Day 12 Departure

Depending on your departure flight schedule, you will check out after having breakfast and settle any extras (standard check out is before 11h00)
