With efforts from the Rwandan Government and the Ministry of environment (REMA) in protecting the environment and its natural habitats, a law was passed in 2018 banning the production and use of single-use plastics for environmental reasons since then, plastic bags are illegal including the customary plastic duty-free bags which has earned it recognition as one of the cleanest nations on the continent.
We at Echoes From Africa work with eco-friendly hotels and lodges and other suppliers in order to reduce the carbon footprint and other negative impacts. We encourage all our clients to follow set guidelines as well as encouraging then to use refillable water bottles, Tupperware containers for packed lunches rather than plastic wrapping foils and proper disposal of rubbish.
The local community plays a very important role in ensuring the safety and security of the neighboring protected areas.
At Echoes From Africa, we are committed to positively contribute to the welfare of locals with more emphasis on the young and future generation who require all the support in understanding more about sustainability and appreciating nature more. We have set aside a percentage from our earnings which supports Gasura Kindergarten school in Kinigi around Volcanoes National Park area currently with 57 students and 3 staff.
